AFTER HIS HEART: COMMITMENT, LOVE’S RESPONSE
Well hello there dear gist partner.
How are you doing today? It is my hope that you are faring well and that you remain sensitive to God.
Welcome to today’s gist.
So, there is something that struck my mind a while ago and I have been meaning to share but I haven’t done it yet so I decided to share it today. In scriptures, we find David being referred to as “the man after God’s heart”, this referral occurs more than once in the Bible and it lends to the belief that this man David is someone God really loved and it is true, God loved David! A love so strong that even when his descendants began to misbehave, for the sake of David, God left a ‘lampstand’ in his house, a king to always sit on the throne who was from the lineage of David, and eventually, The King of kings came from David’s lineage.
But recently, I was reading the Bible and I realized something: when the Bible refers to David as a man after God’s heart, it wasn’t just the love that God had for David that was referred to, it was also the way that David loved God too. So when the Bible refers to David as a man after God’s own heart, the Bible cues us to the fact that David sought after God’s heart –the will of God.
David was one man who tried his best to stay in the will of God and act according to God’s exposed will, beyond superfluous words, David lived his life seeking after God’s heart, his actions may not always have been right but his heart stayed true to seeking after God’s heart and striving to live according to His will.
The question, dear gist partner, now is: do you seek after God’s heart? Does your love for Him motivate you into seeking His will in every situation and truly living a life after God’s heart? When you say you want to be a person after God’s heart, I want you to remember that you are professing a commitment to follow God’s will for your life in every matter and situation, are you ready and willing to do that? You should!
May God help us to truly seek His heart.
TUNES AND THOUGHTS: our song recommendation for this week is ‘On Fire’ by Victoria Orenze. This song is a prayer to God for renewed fervor and reignited passion for Him. Particularly, the lines that strike me are “I wanna know Your heart, I wanna know Your way”; this is a song asking for God to show His will and an expression of a desire to remain obedient to said will. I pray that this song blesses your heart and renews your desire to obey God.
