HEAVEN NO HELP THEM

Hello there!

How are you doing? It's been a minute. I'm so sorry I couldn't get to gist with you last week, there was quite a bit of a lot going on and gisting wasn't possible, I'm so sorry about that.

Anyway, welcome to today's gist.

So, I've been thinking about trust for a while now and I just thought to share some of my thoughts with you if you don't mind.

It's easy to say you trust God when things are going well and everything seems under control; it's not hard to believe that God has a good plan and that everything will be fine when everything is actually going well.

But.

You know where your trust is really built? It's in the midst of those out-of-control experiences. Those times where everything seems to be going awry and nothing is working, that's the time your trust for God becomes more visible.

However, I've found that it is in these situations that should naturally build trust that our trust quickly fails. Somehow, these situations seem to have the effect of producing the exact opposite of what it should. I've recently realized that sometimes it even feels like we're trusting God but in actual fact, we aren't: while we're 'trusting' God, we're actively looking at all the easy we can 'help' ourselves out of wetin dey worry us, after all "Heaven helps those who help themselves"

But you know say that statement no dey Bible? Heaven no dey help any "those who help themselves" oh! There's nowhere, from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21, where God says He'll be helping those who 'help' themselves –that's a lie that the devil has propagated to get us out of dependence on God, because when you're looking for ways to 'help' yourself, you become dependent on yourself rather than on God, and that's not trust! Trust is an unwavering dependence on God, the firm unshakeable belief in His power to save you and work all things for your good (Romans 8:28).

And when your plans all start to fail, when you're at your wits end, when nothing seems to be going well, it typically becomes hard to really see and trust that God has it under control, trust me I'd know, I've been there before!

The devil is really crafty! He begins to bring all sorts of thoughts to your mind, attempting to get you to reason away and rationalize losing your trust for God and, if you're not careful, agree to 'help' yourself instead of waiting on God.

But you should wait on God! You know why? Because "...those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint." (‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40:31‬ ‭BSB‬‬) And "...it is written: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and rock of offense, And whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”" (‭‭Romans‬ ‭9:33‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Trusting God may not start out easy, but there's immense benefit in deciding to trust Him. Every time you face a challenge and you're tempted to 'help' yourself, I want you to remember that what you're doing in actual fact is making a vote of "no confidence" on God because if you really did trust Him, you'd trust Him.

Am I saying you should fold your hands and not do anything while waiting for God to come and do the work you're supposed to do for you? No! What I'm saying is that when you're faced with challenges, make sure that all that you do is in accordance with God's instructions and not from a place of trying to resolve things on your own.

I'm really hoping I've been able to pass the message I sought to pass to you, I pray that the Holy Spirit grants you understanding beyond my jumbled words, and that you learn to truly trust God.

NLS HOT GIST: Omo everywhere just quiet oo! I'm just going to Chambers and learning, nothing much is happening. I sha just have little over a month remaining before I head back to Port Harcourt for my final term, dey pray for me abeg: Bar finals is much closer now than when I first began.

Unfortunately, I'll be taking a break from the blog for a while, I honestly don't know how long. But I'll definitely be back, I just need some time away, I'm planning to take an extended social media break and only appear where absolutely necessary, bear with me abeg🙏🏾.

So that is that about that as far as that is concerned.

See you when I see you.

Love,

Achenyo.
