IN FINITE TIME
How far?
How e dey be? Here's hoping you're doing fine, and that God continues to be with you.
It's another Guest Feature Thursday 🤗🤗. Today we have the privilege of gisting with Pamela Dabit. She's a writer whose work I'm always so eager to read, she's a blogger herself and I'll be leaving the link to her blog at the end of this gist.
That being said, welcome to today's gist.
I'll be talking today about the finiteness of time.
You know they say that time is infinite, but I believe that as infinite as time is, it is finite too.
I had a role that was assigned to me sometime last year. I had vehemently refused to take up the role because it was an extremely demanding role and anybody in my situation would refuse as vehemently as I did, maybe even more. After series of back and forth, I reluctantly agreed to take the role and just a few weeks ago, I realized that I had been carrying out that role for about a year! I was surprised! How is it possible that it's a year already?
Sitting down to critically think through the past year, I have come to the conclusion that time is finite. I was in a meeting with members of the team I worked with this past year and someone said "one year has passed. Your time here is over, except God allows you here again. There is nothing you can do now that you didn't have the chance to do during this past year."
That statement felt like a bomb, or maybe an eye-opener.
Does that mean that I might not be able to say the things or do the things that I didn't get to say or do during this one year ever again? That's a whole lot!
You see, a lot of times we do not maximize the time we have because we think that there is always time, we delude ourselves thinking that because time is infinite, there'll always be an opportunity to come back to do something later, that certain people will always here with you, that you can do this after a certain period.
The Bible in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 defines a lot of finite moments in our lives. Somehow, this Bible passage makes sense to me now from a new point of understanding. It makes me realize that this thing called "time" also has its own time😅(I don't know if that even makes sense, but I hope it does); you see, weeping has its own time, so also is there 'a time to laugh'. The point here is that you should not weep when you are supposed to laugh because you might not necessarily have the time to laugh at your disposal again. And then, what happens? You would have wept twice because you deprived yourself of your time to laugh.
Whatever it is that you do, I hope that you never lose consciousness of the finiteness of time, and you deliberately utilize your time.
It's good to have this opportunity to write here, I'm grateful and I hope that this has given you the hint that your time is finite so you just have to maximize it.
Thank you so much Ma'am for the privilege to have you gist with us today, I've learnt a great deal from your thoughts.
And thank you dear gist partner for reading, I hope you learnt a thing, or twenty, from today's gist.
