LITTLE QUICK FIXES
Well hello there!
It's the last day of November! How'd the month go for you? I'm hoping it went well.
Welcome to today's gist.
I once heard someone say that if the version of Christianity you were introduced to is boring, and you feel like you have to go to the world to find action and flex, then you were introduced to the wrong thing. I agree with this statement 100 percent because my journey with God can never be described as boring, that word doesn't even come to mind. In fact, me and God are very fond of having multiple laughs, and at my expense most of the time.
One of such laugh-worthy incidents occured just yesterday.
Me and pepper are not friends, if my hand comes in contact with pepper, especially fresh ones, for more than a few seconds or on multiple occasions in a short while, my hands begin to burn; it's usually a very uncomfortable and painful experience that has me keeping my hand in very cold water for a long while, usually hours, before the pain subsides. To counteract this, I try my utmost best not to touch fresh pepper so I barely cut pepper; I'm always blending or pounding, and sometimes even the pounding doesn't help me escape the burn.
For the last month I blended a lot of fresh pepper and put it in the fridge and I used from it whenever I wanted to cook. The pepper finished on Tuesday. I went to but fresh pepper and was planning to blend it but we didn't have light. I woke up yesterday at 4am and discovered we had light. I jumped up and was determined to hurriedly blend pepper, even if it'll only be a little bit to use for making breakfast, I no even send say the sound of the blender go wake person oo, after all day for soon break so nothing really spoil. As soon as I finished washing the peppers and put them in the blender, the light went off.
My body been just weak! I was like, "omo God, why You no just give me 5 extra minutes make I blend this thing?" And if there's something we can all agree on in Nigeria with regards electricity distribution companies, it is that they can move mad. So I wasn't expecting the light to come back on anytime soon after the light went off. Na so I carry myself go pound the pepper. So I had to touch the pepper again, and again. For my mind, I been don resign myself to the fact say hand go burn me.
The plan had been to make jollof rice. As I brought the rice to a parboil and was just taking it off the heat, the light came back on!
When it happened, I joined God to laugh myself😂😂. It was so hilarious! He waited until I had put myself in the position for a burn and then He restored the light. I just said "Abba, really?!" That light remained for hours after I had finished cooking, and the burn I was scared of? It never came oo. My hand remained pain free.
As I thought about the incident later that day, I realized what God was teaching me; He was teaching me, through that hilarious experience, to trust Him more. Now of course I'd be quick to say I trust God, and of course I do, but when it came to the matter of protecting my hand from burn, I was ready to go back to the 'help yourself' approach: I needed to learn to trust God even for the seemingly small and inconsequential things like whether touching pepper would lead to an injury for me. This experience served as a reminder to me to trust God, especially for those 'little' things I think I can handle myself.
Well today that I had already resolved that I was going to touch the pepper and nothing would happen, there was now light for me to blend😅.
I pray that God will help us to continue trusting Him and to let Him take control of our lives, especially with regards to the little things we can get tempted to 'fix' by ourselves.
Let me be the first to wish you a great sojourn in December.
See you next week!
Love,
Achenyo.
