THINK ABOUT SUCH THINGS
Hi there!
How are you doing today? I hope you're doing fine, and that if you aren't, God will heal whatever ails you.
It's another Guest Feature day and today my sister, Ramatu, has penned down some really encouraging words, and I hope you are as encouraged as I am.
So, welcome to today's gist.
Have you ever had to spend time around people that constantly and consistently complain about EVERYTHING?? All the things going wrong in their lives are the subject of 90% of all the conversations you have with them, and you just end up convinced that nothing goes right in their lives.
Or have you ever had to consciously or unconsciously avoid some people because it seems that they have perfected the art of turning even the most innocent of conversations into something R -rated and nasty?? They can hardly make sentences without swearing a worrying amount of times and they literally have you cringing at the things that can come out of their mouths.
Over the years I have learned that people like these deserve to be taken in in small doses, not because you don't love them or care about them but because if they are taken in large doses, you end up being really unhappy and super focused on everything that is currently not where you want it to be. Or you'll find that your mind is constantly filled with things that are impure and wrong.
One of my favourite scriptures ever is Philipians 4:8 and it says "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." Because I love it so much I've been learning to use it as a yardstick to judge the things I let into my heart and life.
I'm not going to lie, it does gets hard sometimes because you don't even realize that it is happening.
Like in those times when it seems like you're dealing with multiple "sheges" at the same time or it feels like everything is falling apart right before you and you're helpless. You just want to complain and rant and talk about it with anyone that cares to listen and give you the time of day.
One thing I've found that helps me with schooling my thoughts and heart is imagining that a large screen is attached to my mind and everyone can see my thoughts. Then I ask myself if people seeing these thoughts would be built up or broken down by them, would they think they are noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy? If my answer is in the negative, I consciously try not to think on those things.
Now I'm not saying you shouldn't think about your problems at all but I'm saying you shouldn't think about them so much so that it now borders on worry.
To end this I just want you to read and meditate on Luke 12:25-26 "Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things?" (NLT)

Sometimes they make you look like the abnormal person when you don't complain, and the pressure to 'normalize' is crazy!
