DON'T LET HIM IN!
Hello
there!
I hope
you’re doing well and that all is well with you.
Welcome to
today’s gist.
I was
reading Romans 6 and verses 6 and 7 say something particularly interesting that
I thought to share. From the Amplified version, it says “We know that our old
self [our human nature without the Holy Spirit] was nailed to the cross with
Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no
longer be slaves to sin. For the person who has died [with Christ] has been
freed from [the power of] sin.”
When I read
these verses, the understanding that came to me was the fact that sin no longer
has power over me; I am no longer its slave and cannot be brought under its
subjugation.
That was
a wonderful thought to have, well until I heard in my heart “why then do you
take yourself to be put under sin’s subjugation?”
In that
moment I understood that the problem was not that sin had power over me, but it
was, and still is, that sometimes I carry myself to put under sin’s power; the fact
that I am dead to self and sin through Christ is what removes me from being
under sin’s subjugation but when I take my dead self and pour life into it for
sin to begin to work in me again, I become a prime candidate for sin’s
enslavement.
So, it
is not that the devil has one serious power that he’s using to force me into
sin, it is that I give myself over for him to manipulate and for sin to rule
over me.
For as
long as I remain in Christ and stay dead to sin, sin has no control over me’
but the moment I fan the embers of my self to life, no matter how little the
sparks are, it gives the devil, and sin, enough leeway to enter into and take
control of my life.
You may
be asking “how am I giving the devil entry into my life?” It’s simple really:
when you decide to take reins of your life from God, you are automatically
giving the devil the reins of your life. You can’t have complete control of
your life, it is either you are under God’s control or you place yourself under
the devil’s control.
The
conclusion of the entire matter is therefore this: the devil has no power over
you that you do not give him; his ability to manipulate you into sin is
dependent on your decision to give him entry into your life!
May God
help us not to hand over the control of our lives to the devil.
See you
next week.
Love,
Achenyo.
