DREAM ON....

Hi! How are you doing this fine day? I hope all is well with you.

Welcome to today’s gist.

A dream of mine died two weeks ago. It was a dream I had nursed and begun to make plans towards achieving for just about three years now. But, unfortunately, the person supposed to play an important role in the actualization of the said dream has become permanently incapable of playing their role. So through no fault of mine, this dream would no longer be possible. And in the days since then, I’ve thought of other dreams of mine that have also become factually unachievable; like the fact that I am supposed to be approaching one year post-call by now but oh well! And I’ve realized that not all our dreams become reality; some stay dreams, some move to become wistful imaginations.

As I thought on this, I remembered a conversation I had with my friend Daniel last year; we make plans and have dreams but then life happens and the achievement of these dreams become impossible, or at least impracticable, what do we do then? I’ve found that the only option available for the taking is to create new dreams reflecting our new realities and work towards achieving them. But too often, we’re so stuck on mourning the dreams that will now never be that we forget to plan around the shape our lives have taken, and we get stuck! The old dreams no longer apply, and we have denied ourselves the chance to plan for our current situation.

There is immense wisdom in the saying that if we do not remove ourselves from the past, we will not be able to properly navigate for the future. While I will not say do not mourn lost dreams, I’m still mourning my recent loss at the moment, I will say that we should make the time to weave new dreams around our lives as they now are. It’s not particularly the easiest of things, but it is one of the most rewarding of things.

I pray we get strength to move on, cut our losses on our dead dreams and chart new courses, with God of course, for our lives.

See you next week!

Love,

Achenyo.

PS: still haven’t set a time to take that break yet so we still dey oh! (At least until we no dey for a while😉)
